Two Months to $15,000 in 500-Person Town

Waubashene, Ontario (pop. 500) -- Within two months, the Waubaushene Fire Brigade raised $15,000 to purchase a Bullard T3MAX in the fall of 2004. The township council gave the department $7,500, and the remainder of the money came from a golf tournament, personal donations and civic club donations. As part of its marketing effort, the organization created a mini-CD that was sent to local companies, which included the 8-minute inSIGHT Priorities video, facts about thermal imaging, video clips, and the department’s contact information.

Firefighter Shawn Aymer: “The CD was just one of the methods we used to raise funds for a thermal imager. We had a barbecue mid-summer and a golf tournament in the fall. The letter campaign was a successful way of getting the attention of the business community… The inSIGHT program gave us the knowledge base and tools to sell the concept to our membership, council and our community.”

Funding Tip:

WFB proves that even the smallest communities can raise the money it takes to purchase a thermal imager – in a very short time. The methods of the inSIGHT program are tried and tested. Departments with motivated leaders who follow the steps of the program will succeed in raising money to purchase thermal imagers.
