Carthage, Illinois (pop. 3,000) -- In 2001, firefighters in the Carthage Clipper Fire Department raised $22,000 in just four months to purchase a Bullard Thermal Imager and accessories. Local civic organization leaders originally spawned the idea of starting a thermal imaging fundraising campaign in Carthage. The two most successful fundraisers were a soup supper and a turkey dinner at Thanksgiving, events that brought in more than half of the funds. Citizens in the small town of Carthage funded the department’s purchase entirely through donations.

Funding Tip – The Carthage Clipper Fire Department was very successful raising money through two meals hosted at the firehouse. Consider how your department might align its fundraising events around holidays when people are looking for a place to go.
