Embedded Electronics Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Product Development, this position will be based in Lexington, Kentucky.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and document embedded systems for new products
  • Electronic device design, troubleshooting, debugging, and performance analysis
  • Work closely with Marketing to translate customer requirements into technical specifications for new product development efforts
  • Lead and serve on cross-functional product development teams
  • Interpret industry standards as they relate to new or sustaining design efforts (EMC, CE, NFPA, IS, IPC, etc.)
  • Complete risk analyses, design calculations, Failure Modes Effects Analyses (FMEAs), and design reviews, to verify that a design meets or exceeds product specifications
  • Develop test plans and coordinate testing efforts to verify designs utilizing statistical methods
  • Other duties as required


  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • 3+ years of related design engineering experience
  • Experience with embedded C programming language
  • Experience in the development of firmware for embedded systems
  • Proficient in the use of version control systems (subversion is preferred)
  • Proficient in Altium Designer or similar board design software for (PCBA) design, including schematic capture, layout, Bill of Material (BOM) management, and coordination of PCBA procurement through contract manufacturers
  • Experience in the use of DC/DC converters, ADCs, microcontrollers, non-volatile memory, environmental sensors, and other discrete components
  • Experience in circuit design and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to define, implement, and test technical requirements for electronic designs
  • Experience in collaborative designing with Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Software Engineering, and Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated background of innovation (product, process, etc.) 
  • Passion for product development and continuous learning
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills (including team presentations and technical reports)


  • Experience using Keil uVision IDE for ARM based microcontrollers
  • Experience with ARM NXP products
  • Experience in mixed signal circuit design and analysis
  • Experience in design for EMC compliance
  • Familiar with unit-testing
  • Experience in design for low cost PCB fabrication and assembly
  • Experience with fault-tolerant embedded design
  • Familiarity with USB standards and designs
  • Experience in leading cross-functional product development teams
  • Experience in the design and testing of portable battery-powered products and associated charging systems (experience with Li-Ion technology is a plus)
  • Experience coordinating and working with external electrical design contractors
  • Experience in design for manufacturability and design for test (DFM/DFT) in a manufacturing environment
  • Initiative to identify product development opportunities and present to management
  • Experience in the design of products for longevity use in harsh environments
  • Experience with Linux development
  • Experience with wireless communication (802.11n or p, Bluetooth, ZigBee, etc.)
  • Experience with SBC’s (RPI, Beaglebone, etc.)
