Enid Firefighters Honored for Saving Life
Man's life saved by the Enid Fire Department using thermal imaging technology
FEBRUARY 23, 2012 – ENID, OK – The Enid Fire Department is equipped with a Bullard T320 Thermal Imager that proved to be a life saving device on November 19, 2011, when the crew responded to a structure fire with a man trapped inside.
Lieutenant Cory L. Weber and firefighters Mark A. Morris and Eric Cosby arrived on the scene to see dense, black smoke coming from the structure. Lt. Weber and Cosby quickly grabbed the Bullard T320 and entered the structure to conduct a primary search. The firefighters immediately located the victim using the thermal imager and carried him to safety.
“It's hard to say what the outcome may have been without the thermal imager,” said Enid Fire Marshall Kenneth Helms. “The victim was in the ICU for several days suffering from smoke inhalation and minor respiratory burns, but has made a full recovery.” When the firefighters entered the structure visibility was at zero. “Without a doubt, the thermal imager allowed our firefighters to find this man quickly and bring him to safety,” added Helms.
Lt. Weber and firefighters Morris and Cosby will be inducted into the Bullard Save-A-Life Club in recognition of saving a life by using a thermal imaging camera. These firefighters will be honored on February 23, 2012 at 6:30pm at the City Commissions meeting. Enid is the 78th fire department in the Country to be inducted into the Save-A-Life Club.
