Building a Culture of Safety: Lessons from Catholic University’s Hard Hat Ceremony

The Catholic University of America’s College of Engineering, Physics, and Computing held its 5th annual Hard Hat Ceremony and Senior Design Poster Exhibition on October 22, 2025, in Washington, D.C. This signature event has become a tradition for the College, welcoming first-year civil and environmental engineering students for official induction into the profession and the presentation of their hard hats and safety vests.

The ceremony brought together approximately 250 attendees, including students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners who gathered to recognize the next generation of engineers. For these students, putting on a hard hat is more than the start of a career. It reflects a commitment to responsibility, awareness, and the importance of protecting themselves and others in every environment they design or work in.

Bullard was honored to support this milestone by providing 45 custom Adaptix™ Type II Safety Helmets featuring both the Catholic University and Bullard logos. Each helmet represented a shared goal: preparing future engineers who lead with safety and carry that mindset into every project and team they join.

When safety leadership in engineering education begins early, it shapes stronger professionals and safer communities. These students are learning that leadership is not limited to technical skill—it includes creating environments where protection and care are part of every decision.
